Industrial Degreasing: Dilution Ratios and Where Each Strength Fits

Buying a concentrated degreaser is only half the job. Diluting it correctly is what saves you money and gives consistent results. Here is a practical guide to matching strength to the job.

The general rule

The heavier and more baked-on the soil, the stronger the mix. Start weaker than you think for routine cleaning, and step up only where you need to. Over-concentrating wastes product and rarely cleans better.

Dilution guide

  • Neat (undiluted): extreme grease, engine bays, mining grime

  • 1:4: heavy machinery, equipment and undercarriages

  • 1:10: routine wash bays, workshop floors and parts cleaning

  • 1:20: tools, vehicles and painted surfaces

  • 1:50: daily surface maintenance, floors and walls

Application tips

  • Let the product dwell so it can break down the grease before you agitate

  • Agitate stubborn areas with a brush, then rinse thoroughly

  • On painted or coated surfaces, start with a weaker mix and test first

A note on safety

A non-caustic, biodegradable degreaser like Citrobomb is far kinder than traditional solvents, but it is still a cleaning chemical. Use gloves and eye protection, and keep to the recommended dilutions.
